Ormond Beach appoints new fire chief

Richard J. Sievers comes to Ormond Beach from the Broward Sheriff's Office.

The city of Ormond Beach has appointed former Broward Sheriff's Office Fire Chief Richard J. Sievers as its new fire chief. He will be joining the city's Fire Department on Aug. 13.

Sievers has almost 40 years of experience, according to a city press release. He began his career in 1979 in Lauderhill, working in every rank up through assistant fire chief until 1999, when he became the fire chief in the city of Lauderdale Lakes Fire Rescue Department. He's spent the last 14 years with BSO where he was in charge of fire safety in the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Cooper City and Deerfield Beach.

Sievers also served as the regional coordinator for the State of Florida Statewide Emergency Response Plan for Region 7. He is a state certified level three fire instructor, an emergency medical technician and a fire safety inspector and plan reviewer. He is a member of the Florida Fire Chiefs Association and the International Association of Fire Chiefs.
