Ormond Beach builder to be featured on ‘BattleBots’ TV show

Brian Nave is hungry for redemption on the "BattleBots" television show. The Ormond Beach builder participates in the fighting series, which premieres 8 p.m. Friday, May 11, on Discovery Channel and 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, on Science Channel. His team’s Robot Captain Shrederator is back to compete against the toughest machines from the around the world to win “The Giant Nut” and reign supreme. 

The Shrederator has a full body spinner design, patterned after the Captain America shield. Nave is a veteran of robot combat having been on past incarnations of BattleBots almost 20 years ago, as well as three seasons of "Robot Wars" and a season of "Robotica." He even had his own show for on DIY Network called Robot Rivals and is taping a show in China.

Nave, whose day job is designing and building industrial robotics for railroads as president of LOGICOM Logic Systems, finds one of the best parts of combat robots is inspiring children. He sees it as a gateway into STEM for them on many levels.

“The kids want to build a good combat robot, and to do that, you have to learn engineering, electronics, mechanics of materials,” he said. “It’s exciting for me to bring the robots out to the kids and see the look of excitement on their faces. I always wanted to make engineers the rock stars of the world.”

Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach hosts grand opening
