12:36 p.m. — Intersection of North U.S. 1 and North Nova Road
Drunk driver. Police arrested a 67-year-old Ormond Beach man who was drunk driving in broad daylight, but due to his dangerously low blood pressure, he was promptly "un-arrested" and taken to the hospital instead.
An officer pulled the man over after seeing him hit a curb, continuously fail to stay in one lane and put his car in reverse twice at a stop light. Police report the man had "glassy eyes" and that his breath smelled of alcohol, though he denied consuming an alcoholic beverage. When the officer asked for his car insurance information, the man gave him a business card instead.
In order to attempt the field sobriety exercises, the man asked for his walker but couldn't keep his balance with it either. After arresting him, police called EVAC to check on his medical condition. After he was transported to the hospital, officers conducted a search of his vehicle and found marijuana in a plastic bag inside a Tupperware container. The man said he had "no idea" how it was found in his car.
8:30 p.m. — 100 block of North Old Kings Road
Battery touch. After dating for a week, a couple got into an argument over jealousy issues that resulted in the girlfriend's arrest for hitting her boyfriend on the side of the head. The 30-year-old woman later told police that they weren't actually in a relationship — she just told the 25-year-old man that they could be "cuddle partners."
Police report that witnesses said the argument began after the pair stopped at a park to talk to some friends and that the man became jealous when he saw her talking to another guy. However, the man told police he had stated: "I'm not jealous. What is there to be jealous of?"
The argument escalated, and both parties said defamatory words to each other. The woman told police she felt she was justified in her actions, as she "will not be treated that way," though she admitted she may have let it escalate. She was taken to jail.
6:44 a.m. — 1400 block of West Granada Boulevard
Disorderly intoxication. A 56-year-old transient man asked to be taken to jail, saying "I need a vacation," when police escorted him away from the entrance of a fast food restaurant. The man had been sleeping on the sidewalk, and customers could not walk in the building without having to step over him, police reported.
The man was medically cleared by EVAC, who advised he was just intoxicated. The man was arrested and advised not to return to the shopping plaza. He was taken to jail.
