More speed tables are coming to some residential streets in Ormond Beach.

In June 2020, city staff initiated a traffic calming program to address citizen concerns about the number of cars speeding through neighborhood streets, a city memo states The program was implemented through the purchase of nine speed tables in June 2021. Speed tables were installed at Hernandez Avenue and Fleming Avenue, and Public Works Director Shawn Finley said Dix Avenue and Neptune Avenue are next on the list. Radar feedback signs were also installed last week on North Halifax Drive and Division Avenue.

The first nine speed tables cost the city $24,195, and the purchase of nine more — to be voted on by the Commission on Wednesday, Sept. 22 — would allow for these devices to be installed in other residential streets, such as Highland Avenue.

The total cost of the speed tables, if approved, will total $48,517.20. The city budgeted $66,000 for the program in its 2020-2021 budget.
