The Ormond Beach Lions Club has chosen Seabreeze High School student James Vuille-Kowing as its student-athlete of the month for April.
Vuille-Kowing is a four-year member of the school's tennis team, according to a press release, He was named the Volusia-Flagler Player of the Year for the 2017-18 season, and has also been named the Spectrum Boys Tennis Athlete of the Year. He is ranked 250th in the United States Handball Association and 53rd in the state.
He is also a member of the track team, and placed fourth in the conference track meet with a 4 minute and 52 second mile. In addition, Vuille-Kowing serves as a volunteer tennis coach.
Aside from sports, Vuille-Kowing is a member of the National Honor Society and has earned a 3.9 weighted GPA, as well as scored 1370 on the SAT. Following graduation, Vuille-Kowing will attend the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where he will major in operations research and computer analysis.
The salutatorian of the 2006 Mainland High School graduating class was featured as the U.S. Women's Armed Forces Soccer player in December.
Capt. Jen Gillette is based in the Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, where she is a pilot in a fighter squadron, according to a Facebook post by the U.S. Women's Armed Forces Soccer. She earned a bachelor's degree in pre-med and a master's in business administration, with the intention of becoming a veterinarian.
The Environmental Discovery Center is currently looking for volunteers to help with daily operations and scheduled events.

The Seabreeze High School Vocal Department recently held its spring concert on Tuesday, April 16.
The featured speakers for the Captain James Ormond Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution came from two local environmental agencies.
They were Annie Evert with the Environmental Discovery Center in Ormond Beach, and Chad Macfie from the Marine Science Center in Ponce Inlet. Macfie showed the DAR a bull shark skeleton.
