To encourage residents to begin hurricane preparations, a self-serve sand pile and fillable sandbags will be available starting Aug. 1 at the Nova Community Center, located at 440 N. Nova Road.

It will be open Monday-Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 1-5:30 p.m. on Sundays, a press release announced. You can receive up to 10 complimentary fillable bags from the Nova Recreation Center office. An ID is required. You will need to bring your own shovel.

If you need assistance, staff will be onsite on Wednesdays from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help fill and load sandbags into your vehicle.

More hours and locations will be scheduled in case of a storm. Residents with special needs can request sandbags be delivered to their home by visiting ormondbeach.org/sandbags or contacting the Public Works Department at 676-3220.
