Sister, sister

5 p.m. — 200 block of Palm Place

Battery touch. A 19-year-old woman was arrested after she threw a bottle of bleach at her sister after she refused to eat the bowl of cereal she had made for her earlier in the day. Police report the woman told police that she argues with her sister daily and that they do not get along, though they share a bedroom in the same house. The woman told police "you better just take me to jail because I hit my sister, but it was self-defense."

The victim told police her mother had called the pair earlier asking them what they wanted to have for dinner, and she asked for a chicken sandwich just before her sister brought her a bowl of cereal. The defendant told her she was ungrateful and tried to hit her at that time, but their mother arrived home with the food. After their mother went to work, the defendant then threw the bottle of bleach at her, some of which slightly got in her eye.

After being identified as the primary aggressor, the defendant was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail.

Vandalism. Police report that an unknown subject came onto the grounds and "painted the playground in a vandalizing manner" along with several signs and a reservation box sometime in the day between 8 a.m. and noon. A city employee told police he arrived at the park and saw the vandalism as well as three large green trash cans floating in the river as if they had been thrown.

Police report the damages will cost the city about $500. The employee did not pursue charges on behalf of the city but advised the city may choose to do so at a later date.
