A four-year-old boy was pulled from the bottom of a pool and taken to the hospital on Labor Day in unincorporated Ormond Beach, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies reported that the family was spending time around a residential pool in the 200 block of Coquina Avenue when the boy's father noticed his son's float was upside down. The toddler was found at the bottom of the pool and was pulled to the surface by his father, who attempted life saving measures before Volusia County Fire Services arrived at the scene. As of 2:48 p.m. later that day, the child was alive but had no neurological activity.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 10 people a day die from unintentional drowning. The CDC reports that two of the 10 are children 14 years old and younger.

This story was corrected as of 3:51 p.m. to eliminate the use of infant. AP guidelines suggest to only use infant when a child is under 12 months old.
