Ormond man charged with sexual battery of teenage girl

VCSO reported that the victim knew George A. Rowe as a family friend.

A 51-year-old Ormond Beach man was charged with sexual battery after a 16-year-old girl reported that he had sexually abused her for the past several months, Volusia County Sheriff's Office reported on Thursday, Jan. 2.

George A. Rowe was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 1, and is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on a $175,000 bond, according to a press release. The victim, who knew him as a family friend, gave specific details of the abuse to VCSO detectives on New Year's Day. Detectives were then able to corroborate the details through text and photo messages with Row, the press release states.

Rowe was also charged with transmission of material harmful to minors by electronic device.

VCSO reported that the victim's family "indicated she has a learning disability and may not have the same mental state as others her age."
