After two hours of deliberation Wednesday, Feb. 20, a jury convicted an Ormond Beach man on fraud charges.

Bryan T. Brown, 44, was convicted on a scheme-to-defraud charge, in connection to his 2010 arrest for defrauding State Farm Insurance out of $48,120.24.

He was sentenced to 10 years probation and ordered to pay restitution in excess of $20,000.00, the State Attorney's office announced.

According to the report, Brown falsely claimed to receive therapy treatment for accident-related injuries between March 1, 2009 and Oct. 23, 2010,

“The defendant was in four car accidents in two years and falsified physical therapy treatment documents through his therapy-referral business,” said Assistant State Attorney Kelly Lewis, who prosecuted Brown. “The treatments were never performed but the defendant submitted documents to the insurance company for payment.”

State Farm Insurance Special Investigator Shawn Swango told law enforcement the money paid to Brown was based on, according to the report, “alleged medical treatment, physical therapy and lost wages.”

A review of State Farm documents showed Brown received therapy from companies he either owned or had an ownership stake in, after he reported receiving therapy from outside vendors.
