Ormond Beach photographer J. Walker Fischer will join Florida filmmaker Will Lucas for a surf and wave photo and movie night Saturday, Sept. 22, at Cinematique of Daytona, 242 S. Beach St.

Both artists will discuss their visual interpretations of Florida's surf scene and history at the event, as seen through their exhibits “Inner Waves” (Fischer’s digital photography display) and “Surfing at Summer’s End” (Lucas’ movie).

Admission is $5.

A native of Ormond Beach, Fischer graduated from Seabeeze High School and went on to attend the University of Florida and serve in Vietnam. He is also active in many Daytona Playhouse productions.

“It’s not as easy as it looks,” Fischer said of shooting oncoming waves. “Even small, curling waves pack a wallop and will deliver a dizzying punch to the head if you’re not careful.”

That’s where his surfing experience comes in handy, he added, “for judging the power and precise breaking point of a wave, and avoiding a blow at the last second.”

Fischer’s surf photography has been featured in the Ormond Memorial Art Museum and, more recently, at the Ormond Beach Regional Library.
