Robin Davis is starring in a Flagler play that captures the care and chaos of the Christmas spirit.

With Christmas comes feelings of gratitude, joy and the occasional dose of family frustration. The Flagler Playhouse’s upcoming production of “Greetings,” completely captures the essence of the Christmas spirit, according to Ormond-By-The-Sea resident Robin Davis, who is also playing the lead role of Emily.

“It’s a lovely, tender Christmas story,” she said. “Emily is a woman who has struggled with her situation of her life and the challenges of a raising developmentally disabled adult child. It has taken a toll but she remains hopeful. The play has a soft, warm glow to it.”

The inclusion of disability is partly why Davis was drawn to the play in the first place — she currently works for the Florida Division of the Blind Services Bureau of Braille and Talking Book Library Services, located in Daytona Beach. She began her service there as a volunteer, when she moved to Florida from Maryland three years ago.

“People who experience challenges in life are my everyday patrons,” she said.

In the play, Davis’ character struggles with her daughter’s disability within the boundaries of her Catholic faith. Davis said issues like that are common in her place of work.

“I see that faith provides a great deal of support to meeting life’s challenges,” she said. “It’s really commonly requested. We send out a lot of books to folks to engage them in their faith. The exposure to folks who have to overcome challenges makes me more aware of the blessings in my life, and anything I can do to share those blessings is a worthwhile experience for me.”

About ‘Greetings’

Written by Tom Dudzick, this beautiful comedy is about a young man who brings home his Jewish atheist fiance to meet his very Catholic parents on Christmas Eve. With the inevitable family explosion comes an out-of-left-field miracle that propels the family into wild exploration of love, religion, personal truth and the nature of earthly reality.
