When it comes to decorating your home with Christmas lights, the "go big or go home" credo should always be your guide. And this year, residents' holiday efforts could be recognized by the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce.

Ormond Beach residents and business owners have until Dec. 17 to decorate their properties for the quarterly Ormond Beach Beautification Awards.

Trace Pendry, director of Florida Hospital Memorial Foundation and vice president of community development, is in his first year as a part of the Beautification Committee, a group that spotlights organizations and individuals that make visual upgrades to their properties.

"We want to let them know the city notices what they're doing to their property and how we appreciate it," said Pendry. "In December, we go around and we'll look for holiday displays or Christmas displays to recognize the holiday decorating that they're doing."

The committee typically gives four to five awards each quarter. Pendry considers the awards a Ormond Beach Christmas tradition.

"We do have a beautiful city here, but it's always nice to recognize people that go above and beyond," said Pendry. "This is an opportunity for the chamber to show them that we appreciate what they do for the beautification of our city."
