Elks donate dictionaries to students

Michael Chandler, of the Ormond Beach Elks, recently visited Ormond Beach Elementary School to distribute dictionaries to every fifth-grader. The dictionary program is one of several outreach projects in which the Lodge participates, and dictionaries were distributed to third-graders, as well.

HUM, museum host annual fundraisers

The fourth-annual Halifax Urban Ministries Blue Diamond Gala, to benefit local poor and homeless residents, will be held 6 p.m. Saturday April 27, at the Oceanside Country Club, 75 N. Halifax Drive.

A humanitarian award will be given to Dr. Fred Costello, former state representative and Ormond Beach mayor. The Corporate Social Responsibility Award will be presented to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.

Food Brings Hope Founder Forough Hosseini is the event’s keynote speaker. The event’s cost is $75.

HUM has been in operation 32 years, with more than 80% of its funding coming from the local donations. This gala is the nonprofit’s largest benefit event.
