River monsters: Well, blow-fish me over!

Liza Parchuc and her neice, Victoria Lyons, were fishing in the Halifax River this week and found an unsuspected creature at the end of their line: a puffer fish.

Lyons is a Texas resident who came to Ormond for vacation. She says fishing is one of the things she remembered doing when she used to live here, so she and her aunt took a trip out to the river to relive old memories.

Father Grasso's 50th ordination anniversary postponed

The Golden Jubilee Mass and Reception, marking the 50th anniversary of Prince of Peace Catholic Church’s Father Richard Grasso's ordination as a Catholic priest, has been indefinitely postponed due to health reasons.

Originally scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at 600 S. Nova Road, the dedication for the Seabreeze High School graduate is now on hold.

Father Grasso is retired and resides in Ormond Beach.

The Ormond Memorial Art Museum, at 78 E. Granada Blvd., will host artist Sherrill Schoening for a Art of Healing class, for patients and caregivers.

"Healing activities are essential when the negative influences of illness, loss or life changes encompass your life,” Schoening says. “(This class is about) expressing ourselves in ways that bring joy and peace to our hearts, so the body can heal more easily.”

Students can either bring photos or choose from ones provided to make a vision board.
