Byzantine Catholics feast for Christ's baptism

Holy Dormition Byzantine Catholic Church, located at 17 Buckskin Lane, celebrated the Feast of Theophany Jan. 6.

Commemorating the baptism of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist, the feast has roots in the very beginning of Christianity, according to Associate Pastor Vince Brady. Dating back to the Fourth Century, it predates the celebration of the Nativity.

After this feast, the church’s holy water is used throughout the year for blessings, from homes to caskets. It’s also customary for the priest to visit the homes of each of his church’s parishioners for the new year, for blessings.
