One 12-year-old Ormond Beach resident rang in the new year with a jam "sesh."

Anthony Wilde from Kids Rock the Nation presented the young girl with a ukulele and five free lessons, according to Judy Evers, volunteer recruiter for the Seventh Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem Program

At least 37 children to date have received a stringed instrument and lessons from the organization.

The mission of the organization is to build self esteem in children by giving them instruments and exposing them to the discipline and personal growth found in learning to play music.

They received recognition at the annual Guardian ad Litem Banquet recently with a Community Advocate of the Year Award from the 7th Judicial Circuit of the Statewide Guardian ad Litem Program.
