Raise the flag for breast cancer awareness

To celebrate the start of breast cancer awareness month, Florida Hospital hosted breakfasts for survivors, as well as flag-raising ceremonies, Oct. 1 at its campuses throughout Volusia and Flagler counties

About 250 community members joined Florida Hospital Volusia-Flagler in this celebration, as part of the hospital’s annual Pink Army campaign. At Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, 301 Memorial Medical Parkway, in Daytona Beach, the event was led by Luis Chanaga, the hospital’s comprehensive cancer center administrator.

Breast Cancer Navigators Charlene Brady and Cindy Thornton raised the pink flag, meant to promote annual mammograms, at the campus. The symbol will be flown throughout October.

Help Republicans collect food for the hungry

The Volusia County Republican Party has started a Republi-cans Care Canned Food Drive and is looking for help collecting groceries. It is asking local businesses to offer up space for collection boxes.

As soon as boxes get filled, volunteers will pick them up and leave a new box. The drive will run until the end of the year.
