Hospital treats woman in local shelter

Health care workers from Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center made house calls Sunday, July 28, when they traveled to the STAR Family Center, at 340 North St., to provide free medical treatment to the shelter’s residents.

Women ages 22 to 59 recieved free pap smears, pelvic and STD screenings, and breast exams.

“Both the women and men were very appreciative and thankful for Florida Hospital coming to the Center,” said nurse Becky Vernon, director of women and children's services. “Many women told us they would not have had these screenings done (otherwise).”
