National Night Out draws 500-plus, raises $15,000

Ormond Beach residents celebrated the annual National Night Out crime- and drug-prevention event Aug. 6, by spending the night at North Nova Community Center, 440 N. Nova Road. There was a barbecue, face-painting, balloons, games, door prizes and inflatables.

More than 500 children and adults joined in the fun. More than 50 sponsors participated.

Free bicycle helmets were given to children and other demonstrations included karate, magic and dancing.

A total of $15,000 was collected, all of which will benefit youth programs offered through the Ormond Beach DARE and PAL programs.

Sponsored locally by the Ormond Beach Police Department, the Ormond Beach Police Athletic League and the Department of Leisure Services, National Night Out involves more than 9,800 communities worldwide. It has been a tradition for 30 years.
