Kiwanian Morrison presents on war experience

Longtime Ormond Beach Kiwanian Bob Morrison presented on his role in the Navy, during World War II, at the club’s May 9 meeting.

After training, Morrison was assigned to a 327-foot, 120-passenger boat which patrolled the Panama Canal, and he told the club tales from his tours of duty.

Fellow Ormond Beach Kiwanian Ed Fischer also served in World War II, as a Naval aviator.

City to host Memorial Day remembrance

Rockefeller Gardens, at 25 Riverside Drive, will host a Memorial Remembrance Service 9 a.m. Monday, May 27, in memory of those who died fighting for our country.

The Memorial Remembrance Committee, along with city staff, expects hundreds to attend this 90-minute annual event, which is meant to “honor the selflessness and bravery with which over a million men and women throughout our history had laid down their lives for our freedom.”

The Daytona Beach Concert Band will perform. Janet Marnane, retired U.S. Navy commander, will serve as moderator. The invocation will be given by Rabbi and retired U.S. Army Maj. Howard Schwartz, and the benediction will be by Chaplain Willie Branch. Several color guard corps will also be joined by Boy and Girl Scouts.

Retired Cmrd. Theron Colbert will be the guest speaker
