Pace Center holds Thanksgiving luncheon for its girls

The Pace Center for Girls recently held a Thanksgiving Day luncheon, serving 45 girls and 20 staff members.

The luncheon was sponsored by Board Member Lauren Dye, along with Ashley Lee, Shea Williams, Amy Workman, and Ashley Wohlford, according to a press release. The meal was catered by Metro Diner, and several board members volunteered to help serve the Girls.

DAR welcomes new members

The Capt. James Ormond Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution inducted two new members at the chapter's recent meeting in November.

Those new members are Kathleen Foster and Bonnie Lynn Lenke.

Philanthropists recognized

The Association of Fundraising Professionals Volusia/Flagler Chapter recently hosted National Philanthropy Day to recognize individual and corporate citizens contributing to those in the community.

Philanthropist of the Year. He was nominated by both the Museum of Arts and Sciences and the Boys and Girls Club of Volusia/Flagler.

Duke Energy was named the Outstanding Corporate Philanthropist of the Year, due to its support of FUTURES. Other 2019 Agency Champions include: Chris Wickersham, Suzanne Engle, Dee Pope, Wayne and Louise Cantrell, Len Marinaccio, Ellen Spradley, Hank and Susan Ashby, and Brian and Jacki Unger.

Leo Club reaches milestone

The Seabreeze High School Leo Club is celebrating its 20-year anniversary.

Chartered in 1999, this community service club is sponsored by the Ormond Beach Lions Club.

During this school year the Leos will collect names of veterans to place on a Veteran’s Memorial Wall, collect toys for the Shand’s Children’s Hospital in Gainesville, collect used eyeglasses for recycling, and sponsor a homeless coalition which helps homeless students by providing supplies and offering scholarship assistance, a press release stated.

Ormond resident headed to Silicon Valley

Stetson University junior Bryson Pritchard recently achieved his fifth first-place competition win this year, the latest coming from a student entrepreneur pitch competition hosted by the Entrepreneurs' Organization.

Pritchard, of Ormond Beach, will head to the Silicon Valley in February for the national championship where he will face top entrepreneurs from around the

nation, a Stetson press release stated. Pritchard will pitch his idea for a medical device to help mitigate bloodstream infection rates. Due to his wins, Pritchard has won $34,500 this past year, which he is using to pay for patents, legal fees and product development.

“Winning a spot at nationals is so exciting and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to further promote my idea,” Pritchard said in the press release. “This event will give me access to investors and companies on a national level that are looking for the next great idea.”
