Businesses are ready for Biketoberfest, even the Pinkadilly Thrift Shop, 665 S. Nova Road, across from Prince of Peace Catholic Church. The volunteer staff have been gathering leather items, and have even put up a “Welcome Bikers” sign to take advantage of the traffic.
The shop is open from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The staff is part of the Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary and money raised, after expenses such as rent, goes to the neonatal clinic. Last year the shop was able to donate $20,000.
Browsers can find clothing (including a large amount of women's clothes), collectibles, shoes, books and there’s even a room called “hardware” with dishes and electronics. That room will be converted to a Christmas room for the season.
“You never know what you’ll find here,” said volunteer Sandi Owen.
She recalled recently selling a recliner and the shopper found a couple of rugs to go with it. (They don’t have furniture except for the occasional chair.) A bicycle and a ski board also selling recently, she said.
Manager Bill Hinzman said donations are needed and they can be delivered in back of the shop during operating hours.
Hinzman has a photo of each day’s volunteers posted in the office. He said each day’s staff is like a family, and they enjoy helping the shoppers.
