After burglarizing a vehicle on the beachside, Ormond Beach Police Department arrested a 17-year-old boy who they suspect could be a factor in the recent rise of vehicle burglaries in town.

The boy was identified due to security video recorded at the residence in the 100 block of University Circle on Friday, Nov. 3 around 2:52 a.m. which showed him entering an SUV's unlocked front driver side door. He was arrested four days later on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at his residence in Daytona Beach.

The boy was charged with burglary of conveyance and is in custody in the county's juvenile detention center. Aside from vehicle burglaries, police reported that there have been several vehicles stolen over the past month. The 17-year-old is also suspected of being involved in those cases as well.
