The Ormond Beach Police Department conducted two undercover investigations, leading to five clerks charged with selling beer to minors.

Undercover operatives, all under 21 years old, entered area stores and attempted to purchase alcohol. The operatives were told to use their real IDs and give their correct ages and birthdays, if asked.

Their  transactions were then monitored by plain-clothed police officers.

The first investigation, Sept. 21, netted charges against Cosme Braganza, 64, of Daytona Beach, a clerk at the BP Gas Station, at 1628 W. Granada Blvd.; and Bryan Houghling, 26, of Ormond Beach, a clerk at the Hess Gas Station, 1102 W. Granada Blvd.

The second investigation, Nov. 16, resulted in charges against Daryl Saturne, 23, of Daytona Beach, a clerk at the Kangaroo Store, 1520 W. Granada Blvd.; Brito Rodriguez, 39, of Ormond Beach, a clerk at the Texaco Station, 5 S. Yonge St; and Keyur Desai, 35, of Holly Hill, a clerk at Discount Beverage, 775 S. Yonge St.

The clerks were charged with selling alcohol to a person under 21 years of age. Many other clerks, according to police, declined to sell alcohol to the underage agents.

The charging documents were forwarded to the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco for review.
