Police have identified body found in the Tomoka river

A car submerged in the river was found earlier.

The body recovered from the Tomoka River Basin at 3:19 p.m. on Dec. 21 has been identified as Carly N. Bowie, date of birth Dec. 20, 1995.

Authorities had been searching the river near 2000 North Beach Street since a car without occupants was found submerged the afternoon of Dec. 20. The body was recovered on Dec. 21.

Ormond Beach police were called to the scene on Dec. 20 in regard to a crash. Police found damage to a guardrail and a search led to the discovery of the car in the river.

Assisting local police were the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the U.S. Coast Guard.
