Families are welcome to use Scouting facility.

The Central Florida Council of Boy Scouts of America, which includes troops in Volusia and Flagler counties, opened the Brown & Brown Insurance Aquatics Center on July 13 in Paisley.

A new 7,500-square-foot swimming pool was made possible by a one million dollar donation from Hyatt and Cici Brown, of Ormond Beach, and Brown & Brown Insurance.

The existing pool was also renovated and multipurpose and storage buildings were added. More than 200 youth can now swim at the same time.

“We are pleasantly surprised and impressed by what our gift was able to accomplish,” said Brown, on behalf of his wife Cici and son Powell Brown, who is president and CEO of Brown & Brown Insurance.

Cici Brown’s father was an eagle scout and scoutmaster, according to Nancy Freeman, director of development. Also in attendance were Charlie Lydecker and Robert Lloyd, of Brown & Brown, who have been scouting volunteers for 20 years.

The pool is located in the Leonard and Marjorie Williams Family Scout Reservation, which includes 1,600 acres directly on Lake Norris. Freeman said families are also welcome to use the reservation, but she suggests they call in advance to be sure space is available.

The scouts use the area for camping, aquatic activities, merit badges, etc.
