Cars lined up at Prince of Peace Catholic Church Sunday, Nov. 11, to get their cars washed and offer a little help to victims of Superstorm Sandy in the process.
About 20 volunteers from the Knights of Columbus and the church led this second-annual charity event, with the help of youth group workers, who put in most of the scrubbing power.
"Most of people in this area have families live up at north,” Council 8791 Leader Charles Villareale said. “A lot families there still have no power, no heat, and it's freezing up there. We are sending money so they can buy coats, set up shelters. We don't bend over so well, so those young people from youth group help us out."
All proceeds from the wash, along with $300 raised at a pancake breakfast last week, will benefit storm victims.
"It's a good way to bring everybody together as a community, and help those people that need help," said Chris O'Hare, Marine reserves corporal and youth leader.
High School Students Abbie Albert and Julianna Martorella said they help because they know how bad hurricanes can be.
“We'[ve been through hurricanes here a lot in Florida, so helping them is a big thing for us,” Albert said. “People in Florida understand what they’ve been through."
