Retired U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Barry du Moulin, who is one of five candidates endorsed by now-political action committee CANDO 2, will be running for City Commission to represent Zone 4 in the next term.
In a candidate statement, du Moulin said he is concerned about the implications "poor planning" can cause. He said he wants to stand up against runaway development and that he will be supporting a plan that will "help make Ormond the kind of city that people want to live in, work and play, with a good quality of life."
He also stated that traffic problems will decrease the ability for first responder vehicles to arrive quickly during emergencies and that less green space will cause more flooding and additional pollution issues within the city.
Aside from his 24 years of service to the Coast Guard, du Moulin also has experience in law enforcement as he used to be a deputy sheriff in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, environmental and marine security and business operations.
He will be running against incumbent Rob Littleton and two other candidates. If all qualify, Zone 4 will be the most contested seat in the Ormond Beach City Commission race so far.
