Roland Via, former Holly Hill city official, officially filed for candidacy June 23 for Volusia County Council District 4. A Holly Hill resident since 1962, he was a Holly Hill mayor for five years and city commissioner for eight years.

“I know I am getting in the race late, but I did not see anyone prepared to make experienced informed decisions from the first day in the seat,” Via said in a press release. “Serving as president of the Volusia League of Cities Executive Board, the Water Authority, Transportation, the Volusia Council of Governments boards and my five years as Mayor has prepared me with the necessary extensive knowledge of Volusia County government. Too many important issues are immediately facing the County such as the preserving our right to beach access and lowering our historically high tax rates. This will require citizen input, not just the management of the county. We simply do not have the time to train new people to get them up to speed.”

Via can be reached at 871-5001 or [email protected].
