The game-winning goal for the Seabreeze boys soccer team was followed up by a bow.
Jordan Bowling, with 25:40 left in the game, scored to put the Sandcrabs on top 3-2 over visiting Winter Springs, then ran towards the sideline and took a bow in front of the Seabreeze fans.
Jacob Putting added a goal later in the second half to seal the 4-2 win for the Sandcrabs Jan. 24, and put them into the district championship Friday night against either Pine Ridge or Orlando Evans.
“I think we controlled the game,” head coach Nik Efremoski said. “I don’t think they bothered us at all, especially in the second half.
“We gave up way too many free kicks, and we’ve talked about how that could be the only way that they can hurt us. So we have to fix that part of the game, but all in all I think we played well.”
Winter Springs scored the first goal of the game, just four minutes into the match, and also scored in the closing minutes of the first half, to tie the game at two goals each.
But the Sandcrabs kept Winter Springs off the scoreboard in the second half, and Bowling and Putting gave Seabreeze the edge it needed.
Junior Justin Merkel and sophomore Jacob Espittia scored first half goals for Seabreeze.
Biz Weis scored both Winter Haven goals.
Pine Ridge beat Orlando Evans Jan. 24, setting up a matchup with Seabreeze 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.
