Bus routes for all East Volusia public schools will be changed after winter break beginning Monday, Jan. 9.  Students who ride the bus to and from school may have new route numbers, as well as new pickup and drop-off times.  Times may be adjusted up to 15 minutes earlier or later.  Bus stop locations are not being changed.

The changes are being made to eliminate late buses, double runs, overloaded buses and overlapping times, according to a press release from Volusia County Schools.

Parents were notified Monday, December 19, with a phone call and students who ride the bus will be provided with a post card after winter break noting any changes.  Parents can also access the information on Volusia School’s parent portal or call the Student Transportation Services Department at 258-4677, Ext. 50516 or 50546.

County offers disaster help

Volusia County residents who need insurance deductible payments or home repairs due to damage caused by Hurricane Matthew may apply for a grant through the county’s Community Assistance Division. Applicants may live in Ormond Beach, but not Deltona or Daytona Beach, due to grant restrictions, according to a press release from Volusia County Information Services.

Applications are available online at volusia.org/housing and in the Volusia County Community Assistance office, 110 Rich Ave., DeLand, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The disaster recovery program is funded by Volusia County’s State Housing Initiatives Partnership program to assist residents who own and occupy their home and have already applied for FEMA assistance. If residents have homeowners insurance, they must have already filed a claim.

Residents applying for assistance for manufactured homes are eligible only if the home was constructed after June 1994 and the resident owns the land where the home is located.

Applicants’ household income may not exceed 120 percent of the area median income.

Completed applications may be dropped off in person or mailed to Volusia County Community Assistance, 110 W. Rich Ave., DeLand, FL 32720. Residents who are disabled and need a reasonable accommodation to apply for this program may contact Lori Brown at 736-5955 or [email protected].

Daytona Beach to provide water

The city has agreed with the city of Daytona Beach that Daytona Beach will provide water and sewer services to a residential community, called Cypress Trails, to be located on the east side of Clyde Morris Boulevard and south of Hand Avenue. The development has been approved, along with a planned community to the south, called Birchwood, which is located in Daytona Beach.

Both communities, about 77 acres, will be developed by Grand Champion Partners LLC.

Upon review of the developer and city planning staff, it was agreed that the most efficient water and sewer service could be provided to both communities by Daytona Beach.
