The Pride Varsity remains undefeated; Ormond Beach Pop Warner loses two games; Seabreeze cross country with strong finish

Pride Varsity remains undefeated

The Tiny Mites started the Pride’s slate of game Sept. 22 with an 18-6 win over the visiting Jacksonville Ravens. Elijah Denson rushed for 180 yards, including scoring runs of 40, 45 and 55 yards. Defensively, Brogan Kelly had two sacks and five tackles for loss.

The Mighty Mites bounced back from a loss a week ago with a 27-0 victory. Isaiah “Big Boy” Derrick’s long touchdown run, along with Luke Bentley’s touchdown pass to Nicholas Antoine, led the way on offense.

The Pee Wee team lost 14-0, for its second loss of the season. The team had a chance to tie the game up with under two minutes left, but turned the ball over on downs.

The JV Pride won 31-18, thanks in part to two rushing touchdowns from Darious Toby and one rushing touchdown by Wyatt Denslow, who also added an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

The Pride Varsity remained undefeated with its 28-7 win over the Star Ready Gators, who were also from Jacksonville. Elijah Rone had two rushing touchdowns, and quarterback Denzel Houston ran and passed for a score.

Ormond Beach Pop Warner drops two games against West Volusia

The Ormond Beach Mitey Mite team lost 20-18 to the West Volusia Wolves Sept. 22, on the last play of the game.

The offensive line, led by Dylan Allison, opened up holes for running backs Garrick Schwartz, who scored one touchdown, and Jonathon Campbell, who scored two. Frankie DeAngelis also contributed with several long runs.

Sam Rizzo, Jacob Labonte, Grant Schwartz, Kyle Muffelletto and Sean Michael Baughman all had multiple tackles for loss.

The Junior Pee Wee team lost to West Volusia, 27-0. The defensive effort was led by Marvin Scott, Cameron Orie, Jadyn Nirschel, Torrey Gaines and Blake Tocci, all of whom had several tackles. Scott and Gaines also had solid runs on offense. Nirschel completed passes to Scott, Gaines and Theodore Lockley.

The Sandcrabs host Flagler Sept. 29.

Seabreeze girls cross country finishes second in the Embry-Riddle Asics Classic

The Sandcrabs ran to a second-place finish for 3A and 4A schools Sept. 22, at the the Embry-Riddle Asics Classic.

“The course at Embry-Riddle is considered one of the toughest in the state,” said head coach Debora Diaz said. “(It’s a) true cross country terrain with a challenging hill at the start.”

Alyssa Bayliff (6th), Josie Gray (11th) and Elizabeth Murray (13th) finished among the Top 25 runners.

Other finishing times are as follows: Bayliff (20:59), Gray (21:47), Murray (21:53), Sarah Myers (25:19), Lea Rugerio-Cain (25:30), Isabella McCloskey (25:32), Forever Young (25:49) and Cat Baker (25:54).

Father Lopez football loses to Florida Air; varsity volleyball goes 2-0

The Father Lopez varsity football team lost 62-42 at home to Florida Air.

The Green Wave volleyball team beat New Smyrna Beach (3-2) and Warner (3-0) on consecutive days. The JV team lost to New Smyrna Beach (2-0) Sept. 17.

The boys and girls swimming teams started the week with canceled competitions at DeLand. Both teams lost to Flagler Palm Coast Sept. 19.

Both cross country teams competed in the Embry-Riddle Asics Classic. The girls team finished 6th, and the boys team finished 11th.

The Green Wave golf team had its matchup against FPC on Sept. 18 canceled due to the weather, but finished off the week by defeating University and Mainland.
