The Father Lopez girls soccer team takes second place in a holiday tournament and, get ready, tryouts for the Golden Spikes are almost here.

Green Wave take second place in holiday tourney
The Father Lopez girls soccer team took second place in the Dec. 30 holiday tournament it hosted.
The Green Wave lost to Space Coast 4-1, in the tournament's championship game. It was the second loss in the tournament the team suffered against Space Coast.
Senior Tiffany Larsen scored Father Lopez’s lone goal in the championship game, and the Green Wave were outshot 17-7.
The other loss to Space Coast came Dec. 27, in Father Lopez’s second game of the tournament, a game that ended 3-0, after Father Lopez managed 16 shots on goal, while giving up 15 to Space Coast.
In their first game of the Holiday Tournament Dec. 27, the Green Wave beat Taylor 2-1.
Father Lopez got goals from Allie Lydecker and Fiona Whitfield, who also had an assist, and outshot Taylor 52-7.
The Green Wave got off to a 3-0-2 start this season, despite head coach Paul Beaudoin dealing with injuries to several key players, like Whitfield and Caitlyn Hogan.
But since getting the full roster back, and healthy, for the first time all season, Dec. 14, the Green Wave have gone 4-2-0, including a 3-0 win over district opponent Circle Christian, to improve to 11-4-2.
The Green Wave likely have one more tough game, against Master’s Academy, before Jan. 14, and the start of the District Tournament.
The game against Master’s Academy was originally scheduled for Dec. 11, but had to be rescheduled due to weather.

The Ormond Beach Golden Spikes Competitive Baseball Club will hold tryouts Jan. 13, for the 9U through 14U teams.
Registration for the 9U-12U teams starts 1:30 p.m. at Nova Community Park, 440 N. Nova Road, and tryouts will begin at 2 p.m.
Registration for the 13U-14U teams also starts at 1:30 p.m., and will take place at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex. Tryouts will begin at 2 p.m.
