Swinging for the fences: Lady Renegades win tournament
The Lady Renegades 10U softball team won the Silver Bracket championship at the Mardi Gras Bash tournament, Feb. 16 and 17, in Jacksonville.
The 12U team took second place in the Silver Bracket during the Feb. 9 and 10 Winter Garden Diamonds Fastpitch Frenzy Tournament.
End of the line: Father Lopez boys basketball season ends
The Father Lopez boys basketball team lost to Providence 70-52 Feb. 23, ending its season in the Class 3A regional finals.
The Green Wave trailed by 12 points after the first quarter, but opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run for the first 2:25, bringing the score to 20-17, in favor of the visiting Stallions.
The Father Lopez run was ended by a three-pointer, one of the 10 Providence made in the game. The Stallions hit six three-pointers in the first half, four of which came in the first quarter.
Malik Maitland led the Green Wave with 17 points, followed by Cameron Breehl’s 13 points and A.J. Ford’s 11 points.
