Sidelines: Seabreeze softball ready for postseason play

Seabreeze’s girls softball team is set to compete in the district tournament at Deltona High School after closing out the regular season with two straight losses. The Sandcrabs, with a regular season record of 9-9, lost to a solid Spruce Creek squad 12-4 on April 17 and dropped their regular season finale to University 6-1 on April 19. The Sandcrabs’ district record is 5-5.

Mainland’s girls softball team closed out a difficult season on April 12. The Buccaneers lost to New Smyrna Beach 16-0 in the Buccaneers’ regular season finale — their third loss in a row. Mainland finished with a 2-14 overall record and was 2-9 in district play under head coach Alec DeWeese. Despite featuring a roster with little experience, the Buccaneers managed two wins on the season: an 18-6 win over Father Lopez on Feb. 27 and a 16-1 win over Lopez on April 3.

Bucs baseball wins two of last three

Mainland baseball finished the 2018 regular season winning two of its last three games. The Buccaneers defeated Atlantic 5-3 on April 16 and Seabreeze 5-4 on April 17 and lost to Taylor 9-8 on April 19. The Buccaneers concluded the difficult season with a 4-13 overall record and went 3-9 in district play. The Buccaneers’ other wins were against Father Lopez on Feb. 22 and Matanzas on March 6.
