Sandcrab wrestlers grapple their way to regionals

Seabreeze wrestlers Merrick Sica (160 lbs), Kyle Flynn (132 lbs) and Chris Whien (145 lbs) finished in the Top 4 in their weight classes at the Class 2A, District 13 meet and will advance to regionals.

Sica and Flynn, both seniors, are the team captains and two wrestlers head coach Paul Shuler said he looks to for leadership.

“They're very good (leaders),” Shuler said. “They’re always on time to practice. They have very good leadership qualities about them, and they’re always making sure the guys do what they’re supposed to. They do their jobs. They’re very reliable.”

All three wrestlers will compete in the Region 4 meet, which begins Friday, Feb. 8, at Martin County High School, in Stuart.

Flynn finished third in his weight class at the district meet. Sica and Whien finished fourth.

Swing for the fences: Adult softball sign-ups

The Ormond Beach adult coed softball league, entering its 20th season, is now accepting team sign-ups.

League play begins March 4, and will run through May 16, with each team playing 16 games at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex, 700 Hull Road, Monday through Thursday.

The league will be divided into divisions, based on the number of teams signed up. All players must be at least 18 years old. The team sponsorship fee is $540.00, and the league will provide softballs, umpires, scorekeepers and awards.

There will be a league meeting 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex Office, where one team representative must be present.
