Diamond days: Ormond hosts baseball, softball clinic

The 2013 Summer Baseball/Softball Power Hitting Clinic, for ages 10-15, was held this week at the Nova Community Park fields. Ten participants spent Monday through Friday working on their power-hitting, mechanics and small-ball techniques, such as bunting, slashing and hit-and-running. Contests were held Friday, with awards given at the end the week.

Instruction was led by Athletics Coordinator Gerry Pitchford and athletics staff member Bob Daniels.

Starting now: New sports camps

Despite the heat, kids are enjoying their last week of the first session of the Summer Connection Day Camp, at the South Ormond Neighborhood Center.

To cool things down, PAL leaders brought the campers for a day trip at Daytona Lagoon.

There have been plenty of indoor games and crafts to keep the kids busy, as well, when the afternoon heat turns up. The second session of Summer Connection Day Camp will continue through Aug. 9. Spots are still available. Call 676-3250.
