SIDELINES: Undefeated Sandcrabs clinch No. 1 soccer seed

The Seabreeze boys soccer team remains undefeated through its first 11 games and has already clinched the No. 1 seed in next month’s District 6-3A tournament.

Seabreeze (9-0-2) has scored 37 goals and allowed just nine.

The Sandcrabs have three regular-season games remaining before the district tournament. They travel to Mainland Dec. 19, and then they'll host two games to close out the season: Jan. 10 vs. Flagler Palm Coast and Jan. 15 vs. Spruce Creek.

Girls hoops: Lady ’Crabs down University  

The Seabreeze girls basketball team got back to its winning ways Tuesday, taking care of University, 66-34.

Seabreeze (6-5) drained five 3-pointers in the game. Mckenzie Bowlus led the way with 14 points — 12 of those came on four 3s.

University was limited to just four points in the second quarter and three points in the fourth quarter.

Girls soccer: Father Lopez 1, Taylor 1

The Father Lopez girls soccer team appeared to on its way to a 1-0 win over Taylor until Ivonne Mancilla scored the game-tying goal for Taylor with 32 seconds to go in the game.

Adelina Feuerbacher scored the Green Wave goal.

Madison Young had two saves for Father Lopez (6-8-1).

Strike! Registration underway for ump clinic

It’s time to hone your strike calls.

The Ormond Beach Leisure Services Department is now accepting registration for a three-day umpire clinic, which is being offered by the Harry Wendelstedt Umpire School, for ages 16 to adult.

There are clinics for beginners and advanced, and they will be taught by major and minor league umpires on the Wendelstedt staff.

The clinics will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on three consecutive Saturday mornings: Jan. 18, Jan. 25 and Feb. 1, in Ormond Beach.

Participants are to attend all three dates. Clinics will cover basic fundamentals of a two-man system, plate work, the strike zone and other rules. Advanced training will focus on the obstruction and interference rule.

The clinic is free but registration must be completed and turned in to the Leisure Services’ registration office by noon Jan. 16. Minors must be registered by their parents or a court-ordered legal guardian.
