Rev up your engines for a cause Oct. 6, when the 19th-annual Bruce Rossmeyer Ride for Children, grand marshaled by actor-director Steve Buscemi, will roar through town, benefitting Camp Boggy Creek, a nonprofit for seriously ill children.

With check-in starting at 6:30 a.m. at Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson, 1637 N U.S. 1, the ride will start at 10 a.m. and head to the camp in Eustis, led by Buscemi and Jody Perewitz, who is the first woman to break the land speed record, going more than 200 mph on an American V-twin, along with a police escort. There will also be silent and live auction, live music and a free lunch provided by Outback Steakhouse.

The event has set its fundraising goal at $350,000 and has already raised nearly $117,000, as of Sept. 24, through preregistration. But, for Marketing and Promotions Manager Mandy Rossmeyer, they're not close to done yet.

"We raised over $350,000.00 last year and are anticipating that we will pass that goal this year," she said. "Very exciting!"

Operated fully through donations, the 232-acre Camp Boggy Creek gives seriously ill children a chance to experience the adventure and independence of summer camp, in an environment suited for their medical needs. The camp is offered at no cost to parents.

It has been supported by Bruce Rossmeyer’s Harley Davidson since its opening in 1996.

"The camp is magical and once someone visits and gets to see and learn what they do for these kids, they will want to do the ride every year," Rossmeyer added. "The riders get to actually experience camp and see where their money is going. It is awesome."

The ride, about an hour and 15 minutes (cars are welcome for nonbikers), is priced at $50 per rider and passenger, which includes  lunch, drinks, auctions, a raffle, a shirt and a patch. VIP packages are also available for $300, $250 for passengers, and include riding near the front of the group, lunch and drinks, a seat at the invite-only Saturday, Oct. 5 party, auctions and raffles, two shirts, a bag, a hat, a pin and a patch

The deadline for online registration is Oct. 4. To register for the ride and/or party, visit rideforchildren.com.
