An Ormond Beach soccer player continues his path to greatness; also: Lady Renegades softball to host free workouts, and Ormond Beach will host a youth fishing tournament.

BY ANDREW O'BRIEN | SPORTS EDITOR

Kai Koreniuk started playing soccer in Ormond Beach with the city’s competitive club, Apollo. Last year, as a freshman, he was on the varsity squad at Seabreeze. But he won’t be continuing his soccer career exclusively in Ormond Beach.

Koreniuk, 15, was recently admitted into the Vitesse Youth Academy, in the Netherlands. Vitesse, which is French for “speed,” fits Koreniuk, who, at 6 feet, 165 pounds, uses his size and speed to power past defenders as a promising goal-scorer.

In 2012-213, Koreniuk scored 66 goals and added 23 assists in 39 games.
