Special-needs sport leagues open for sign-ups

The city will begin its Challenge Soccer and Challenge Sports of All Sorts leagues for special-needs residents next week.

The Nova Community Center, Special Populations Division, has opened registration for its fall sessions of special-needs sports leagues.

The first practice for Challenge Soccer, a soccer program for children and adults 10 years and older with special needs, will be Tuesday, Sept. 11. This six-week program teaches basic soccer skills and ends with a game between all players. Practices are held 5-6 p.m. Tuesdays

The first day of Challenge Sports of All Sorts, an introductory sports program for special-needs children ages 5-10, is Wednesday, Sept. 12. Each week will focus on learning skills from different sports and will meet 3-4 p.m. Wednesdays.

Each program costs $23 for residents and $35 for nonresidents. To register, visit the Leisure Service Registration Office at 399 N. U.S. 1, or go online, at www.ormondbeach.org.
