Sport Clips Haircut is celebrating a grand opening of a location in Ormond Beach on Saturday, Aug. 8, becoming the latest of the franchise's 1,850 men and boy's hair salons across the U.S.

For Brand Ambassador Stephanie Steele-Elmore, the new location at 1474 W. Granada Blvd. inside the Ormond Towne Square means she can ride her bike to work.

She and the other nine team members all live locally, and Steele-Elmore said it all started when franchise owners Brian and Pam Register sat in the Chick-fil-A and pictured a Sport Clips in the shopping center about five years ago.

“It’s a good family friendly area, and I guess they saw a vision," Steele-Elmore said.

Sport Clips Haircut is headquartered out of Texas where the first salon opened in 1993.  The Ormond location is the second in the Daytona area, according to a press release. In keeping with COVID-19 precautions, stylists — who will be wearing masks at all times — will work out of individual stations, and utilize two chairs; when one is being used by client, the other will be disinfected. Temperature checks will also be conducted at the door, and every client will get a new cape and comb. But, in keeping with the salon's culture, sports TV will be on at all times.

“It’s definitely been a learning experience, getting back into the swing of things and doing new procedures," said Angela Alvesteffer, Sport Clips area manager and brand ambassador.

During the month of August, the salon will also be offering free haircuts for first responders.

“We just want to thank them for all the hard work they’ve been doing to keep all of us safe in the community," Steele-Elmore said.

Sport Clips also has several charitable initiatives through its "Haircuts with Heart" initiative, including campaigns to raise funds for the American Red Cross, childhood cancer research grants and several veterans organizations. In addition, its Help a Hero scholarship program provides college scholarships to veterans and service members.

It's a way to give back and to show that they're a part of the community too, said Steele-Elmore.

“It’s great to be recognized outside of work as well as inside of work," Steele-Elmore said. "I think it’s really important.”
