Ormond  Beach Police were called to Lakebridge Drive, off Wilmette Ave., in Ormond Beach at 10:35 a.m. Tuesday morning, concerning a man wielding a homemade club. Just after noon the man was in custody.

The name of the man was not released, but OBPD spokesman Officer Keith Walker said the police department had dealt with the man in the past.

It wasn’t clear what the man wanted, but he may have asked for alcoholic beverages.

Walker said the man was taken into custody and transported to Halifax Health to undergo a mental evaluation.

The family had locked themselves in an upper bedroom.

“We got the family out before we went in after him,” Walker said. “We took him to the ground without any weapons.”

“We don’t know what he intended,” Walker said. “His mother said he was having a bad day.”
