Stretch Zone, a practitioner-assisted stretching franchise, opened its Ormond Beach location on Oct. 17. This is Stretch Zone’s first Volusia County location.

Ormond Beach’s Stretch Zone franchise owner Dr. Alexander White became interested in assisted stretching to improve his flexibility and aid in keeping up with his active teenage daughter.

“She had challenged me to touch my toes by July 4, so I worked really hard and I finally did," White said.

After not finding much luck from massage therapy, White discovered the Stretch Zone franchise and said he’s never felt better; he strives to bring that same relief to the community. At Stretch Zone, employees work one-on-one with each client and gradually increase their range of motion. Its clients range from athletes to the elderly. The stretches provided include ones using table straps and free standing stretches.

White has two business partners, Mike Carrier and Landon Cheviron, who reside in North Carolina.

Inside Stretch Zone, rows of stretching tables line both sides of the room. Employees assist clients through various stretching positions. Stretch Zone Founder Jorden Gold developed a unique strapping system for the stretching tables that is now patented.

“They actually patented the straps, so you can get a better stretch, because they strap you in different positions to get a stronger focus on parts of the body that need attention," White said.

Learning how to stretch properly provides safety for the client, White added.

‘‘If you're not flexible and you fall down, you're stuck on the ground until somebody can help you where it could be a safety issue,” White said.

White also worked as an emergency room doctor.

"Unfortunately, working in the emergency room, we see so many people injured by falls, so if we can help prevent falls, we can improve people's physical capabilities" White said."I think that's what's most important."
