After failing to yield the right of way to an incoming vehicle, a 54-year-old Jacksonville man driving an SUV was struck on just west of I-95 on State Road 40 on Monday, Aug. 7 at approximately 1:24 p.m., causing his vehicle to flip over.

The man was making a left turn from SR 40 onto Interchange Boulevard when he failed to let a sedan traveling at about 45 mph continue down the road. The sedan crashed into the SUV’s passenger side door, causing the larger vehicle to flip over and stop a few feet away.

The driver of the SUV sustained only minor cuts and scrapes, but his passenger had to transported to Florida Memorial Hospital for her injuries caused in the accident. The driver of the sedan, who is from Silver Springs Fla., was unharmed.

The Jacksonville driver was determined to be at fault by the Ormond Beach Police Department, and was cited for failing to yield while making a left turn.

The accident last week created some traffic on SR 40, causing all eastbound lanes to be closed and traffic to be diverted through the RaceTrac.
