T-ball fields to be named for Wigley

The new T-ball fields at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex will be named for youth sports administrator Doug Wigley. Plus, Halifax Paving gets a city contract, Riverside Drive closures and more.

T-ball fields to be named for Wigley

The Ormond Beach City Commission approved a resolution naming the T-ball fields at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex after Doug Wigley, a resident of Ormond Beach for more than 25 years, who has also been a board member for the Ormond Beach Youth Baseball and Softball Association for 19 years. At the Sept. 12 meeting, the Leisure Services Advisory Board recommended the new fields be named the “Doug Wigley T-ball Fields.”

There have been several other city facilities named after individuals recently, including the Andy Romano Beachfront Park, the Cameron Brenneman Memorial Playground at Sanchez Park and the Harry Wendelstedt, Jr. Baseball Fields.

Halifax Paving gets airport contract

The commission approved a $2,090,471.37 contract with Halifax Paving Inc., for construction services for the Taxiway Alpha Relocation and General Airfield Improvements Project.

The project includes construction of a public use heliport, relocation, rehabilitation and realignment of three airport runways, as well as a new compass rose.

Walmart granted special exception for seasonal storage trailers

Walmart, at 1521 W. Granada Boulevard, was granted a special exception by the City Commission to have 10 seasonal storage trailers on the property, Nov. 1 to Jan. 7,

The Ormond Beach Planning Board unanimously recommended the exception after it was determined there wouldn't be any negative aesthetic impacts.

The trailers will be located at the the southwest section of the property, by the automotive department.

Riverside Drive closures

The City Commission, Oct. 16, approved the closing of Riverside Drive for various upcoming events.

The road will be closed, from Granada Boulevard to Casements Drive, for Halloween (Oct. 31), Ormond Mainstreet’s Riverfest (Nov. 16-18), the Gaslight Parade (Nov. 23), the Christmas Gala (Nov. 30 to Dec. 2), Holidays at The Casements (Dec. 13) and the Holiday Celebration December at Salty Church (Dec. 21), through the remainder of the year.

There are also additional Riverside Drive closures in 2013, for events like Eggstravaganza and Art In The Park.
