Halifax Health Medical Center has announced the completion of renovations to its Betty Jane France Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The $1 million construction project, which expanded the NICU from nine to 14 beds, is showcased via a virtual tour available online at halifaxhealth.org/NICU.
The NICU features an open-concept design that allows clinicians to care for babies utilizing a team approach. Amenities include a certified infant massage specialist, an isolation room, state-of-the-art flooring and lighting and a breast milk storage area.
Opened in April 1975 and located in the Center for Women and Infant Health at Halifax Health Medical Center of Daytona Beach, the NICU providesservices for approximately 200 newborns each year who require intensive care due to prematurity or illness diagnosed around the time of delivery.
In honor of National Healthcare Volunteer Week, April 10 to 16, the six Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties recognized the volunteers who donate their time and talents to the hospitals.
On April 13, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center hosted a volunteer appreciation luncheon at The Shores Resort in Daytona Beach Shores for more than 110 volunteers. During the event, four volunteers were recognized for 5,000 hours of service: Rosalie Bernstein, Marge Garrett Susan Maynes and Auxiliary President Pat McCarthy. In addition, teenage volunteer Alexandra Scott was recognized as the Shirley Sliwa TAV Honoree and received $1,500 to assist in furthering her educate after high school. Volunteer Don Cole received the Honorary Life award for his 14 years of service, totaling 5,306 hours.
