When 16-year-old Brandon Bagnall died last year, he left behind more than just memories for his friends and family. His internal organs were donated to others in need, and Bagnall saved five lives.

As a celebration of both his life and ability to influence people even after his death, his mother, Sue Bagnall, is throwing a benefit, called Believe Like Brandon, to raise money and awareness for organ donation.

“’He just did a lot of amazing things,” Bagnall said. “I received at least 50 messages from people I’ve never met that knew him and said he touched their lives.”

Brandon died in December 2012 from an arteriovenous malformation. His mother would like this event to not only revive his memory but also raise awareness about his disease.

The benefit will be hosted Dec. 8, at Salty Church, 221 Vining Court.  Brandon attended church there and was a part of the youth group. Sue Bagnall said the money raised will be donated to AVM Awareness, TransLife Organ and Tissue Donation, and Salty Church Reform Youth Ministry. Call 212-1070.

One of the organ receivers, Bob Bougher, will be attending the benefit. He recieved Brandon’s right lung.

Sue Bagnall said she just wants people to show the same kindness that Brandon did while he was alive.

“The event is to show people the kindness he shared and he emanated out. He was known for his smile,” she said. “He was bullied in school but he never became a mean person. He was my rock, my buddy. He’ll always be my buddy.”
