Tomoka Elementary School fifth-grader Wyatt Wahl is passionate about attendance.

He is the winner of the poetry category in Volusia County School’s Everybody, Every Day Attendance Contest, which included several categories for students to enter a poem, poster or rap/song video about being on time and not being absent.

Wahl's poem will be enlarged to poster-size to be displayed in the Tomoka Elementary main office as a reminder of the importance to attend school every day, said Principal Susan Tuten.

Wahl is in Lucy Lorden’s fifth-grade class.

Everybody, Every Day!

By Wyatt S. Wahl

Tomoka Elementary School – fifth grade

 Everybody!  Every day!

 From August until May,

Be sure your attendance is okay!

 Don't be a fool,

Just show up to school!

Be sure you do not arrive

Later than 7:55.

With too many lates,

Bad grades maybe your fate.

We don't want you to miss your graduation

 Because of an attendance situation!

  Everybody every day,

Make sure your attendance is okay!
